The Beechjet 400 series jets were originally designed as the Mitsubishi MU-300 Diamond which first flew in 1978. Beechcraft purchased the production rights and named it the Beechjet 400A which was certificated in 1986.
Raytheon/Beechcraft improved the model in 1990 with longer range and higher takeoff weight and renamed it the Beechjet 400A. In 1993 Raytheon purchased the Hawker business jet product line from British Aerospace and renamed the Beejet to the Hawker. They improved the aerodynamics of the line for better performance and range and made substantial interior improvements to what is now known as the Hawker 400XP.
